Whenever I am in the Philippines, I always try to make it a point to go out of town. Staying too long in a city can be stifling, especially for a city such as Manila, also one of the densest cities in the world. Escapism this may be but I prefer seeing the country that just staying in the city. When I purchased tickets out of Manila, I noticed that the terminal I will be using is the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal Four. Four? I only knew about the third terminal which is the newest as most modern terminal in the country, but four? As it turns out, the four terminal is the old domestic terminal. There is no easy way to get to the terminal so I took a cab there. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn’t the chaotic mess that I remembered it to be.
The terminal building is probably the same but it somehow looks a little brighter now. There is a waiting area for taxis and a small area for departing passengers. Entering the terminal building was even more surprising. The concierge area is bright almost forgot that this was an airport terminal. To the left is the baggage scanning area before you proceed to the check in counters, which doesn’t really have a very large area. From the outset you can see security in the airport is very tight with numerous security personnel patrolling the area. I just hope that they aren’t just for show. The counter area isn’t really high tech yet as it looks like it came straight out of the 80s. They probably use computers here but they should at least try to improve their image. Much has changed here but much still needs to be done.
