Zhengyi Road in Kunming is probably the city’s answer to shopping heavyweights like Wangfujing and Nanjing East Road in Shanghai. It is nowhere near as famous as the other two who happen to be known outside the country as well. However, Zhengyi Road also has its own charm. It doesn’t have the old style houses or buildings which Beijing and Shanghai have as there wasn’t a lot of colonial rule here in Kunming. Instead, they have spruced up the street and turned it into a pedestrian shopping street. It doesn’t have street side stalls, though it would have been nice. Street markets in Zhengyi Road tend to come and go though, so you might be lucky if you find one here. Instead the streets is lined with trees and seats, perfect for people who walk up and down the street.
As expected the shops that line this street are all local brand shops which I didn’t really have any interest in. I went in some of the shops here but there wasn’t really anything much here for me. If you are really into shopping this might a paradise for you. I just wanted to buy some stuff to bring back home and feed my office mates. Fortunately, there was a large Park and Shop nearby where I bought my Yunnan goodies. Apart from that I just sat on one of the many benches here and just watched people pass by.
