I was quite underwhelmed with the Seven Dragon Maidens Pool at Cangshan. True, this set of pools isn’t anywhere as beautiful as maybe a Huanglong which is famous for its travertine formation, and of course, its pools. The Seven Dragon Maidens Pool isn’t like that at all, however, this seems to be one of the more popular locations in the mountain. This can be seen by the presence of numerous local tourists who are trying to traverse the pools.
The pools are bordered by large rocks from which you can clamber up to get closer to the top. Although there are some rocks which had stairs carved out of them, it didn’t make it any easier for me to go closer. This is made even worse by the heavy camera I was carrying. Some parts of the trail here were downright dangerous where one slip would send you to the water and possibly to the pools below. Some of the rocks seemed to be too far apart that leaping across them was unthinkable for me. My Canadian travelling companion was very enthusiastic about exploring this so I let him be. He also understood that I was very apprehensive about this so he let me be as well. He did reach all the way to the top of the falls, from which he said that there was a less dangerous path to the right of the pools. Apparently, that flight of stairs wasn’t obvious enough that people had to clamber up the rocks to get to the top.
