I decided to step out of Dali Ancient Town and try to see what else is beyond the walls. Navigating Dali itself is very easy since it is just a grid, unlike its bigger brother Lijiang which is a maze. I was thinking of going to the Erhai Lake to see whether it was nice. It was quite straightforward to know how to get there as the lake can be seen from there other side of Dali Ancient Town. One side of the town is higher than the other with Erhai Lake on the lower side.
There was a straight road heading out of the ancient town and it wont be the first time I would go there. It just so happened that was some kind of activity at the gates of Dali. There seemed to be a procession and I was thinking that this was some sort of Bai culture thing. The men were carrying some object on their shoulders which made me realize that it was a coffin. This was a funeral procession. Strangely enough there was no photo of the deceased. Maybe that is how they do it here. I have the misfortune of always running into this sort of thing on my trips, but then again this is also part of travelling, where you can see how people really live their lives.
