The next day, I asked the front desk at the Yuyuan Hotel where I can find very cheap but good food. I thought it would be best to ask the people who stay here since they know the place best. The man very enthusiastically jumped up and hauled me out of the hotel telling me that he knows where a very cheap place is and yet it is still good. He said it only costs five yuan and I can have as much as I want. If this sounded to incredulous, I felt exactly the same way. As a guarantee, if I don’t fill my belly after eating there, I can hit him. Anyway, he led me a few streets down the block where there seems to be a Buddhist area.
One of the stores in this area was a vegetarian restaurant which is operated by monks. Yet all of the food here is vegetarian, but who needs meat if it is tasty enough right? I wasn’t disappointed, as far as non-meat dishes, this one was quite nice. I always have a distaste for vegetarian meals but this one was quite good. You are asked to clean up after you finish your food, small payment for the nice vegetarian food. It was really not bad at all for five yuan. Just be aware that they only serve food at certain times in the day. I never did get to hit that guy, not that I needed to.
