The statue of the Acuoye Avalokiteshvara or Acuoye Guanyin is a sight to behold. It seems to be at least three stories high and it is the centerpiece of the entire Chongsheng Temple park. The statue glows with a brilliant golden hue and it is actually quite elegant. The Acuoye Guanyin is characterized by his feminine features and is thus sometimes known as the Slim Waist Guanyin 细腰观音. This is sometimes in contrast to the rather plumper depictions of Buddha we see in other places.
Since the Acuoye Avalokiteshvara Pavilion 阿嵯耶观音阁 houses the statue, it is natural to be taller than that. There is a set of stairs along the pavilion to allow visitors to climb up the building. As you climb higher you get to see more of the statue and at the very top you will be looking down at it. However, from here you can also see the surrounding area all the way to the Erhai Lake. On the other side of the pavilion, you can see to the end of the Chongsheng Temple Park. I find out that I do not have much further to go as I was already almost at the foot of the Cangshan Mountains.
