Prior to coming to Dali, the only thing I knew about the town was that it is famous for its three pagodas. I have seen photos of the place and thought it would be great to visit this place. Now that I am here, I stand in awe of the Three Pagodas as they sit at the food of the Cangshan mountains. The mountains really do make a lovely backdrop. The Three Pagodas yellowish structure stand beautifully against the blue sky, accenting the blue even more. It was tricky when I visited because the sun sets behind the Cangshan mountains, that is behind the pagodas.
Then again, once you have been to the Three Pagodas, you start to wonder, if this was it? The Three Pagodas look nice but they just stand there and you can’t even go up to see the sights. I must admit that it was a bit underwhelming to finish taking photos of the Three Pagodas but there was more to the park and the Three Pagodas, or else they can’t charge more than a hundred yuan to enter the park. There is still the Chongsheng Temple to explore and I still have some time to explore, but there is a lot of park left. It was time to go.
