The main road of Dali Ancient Town is certainly very attractive to me and the people know it. Most of the people visiting this ancient town is bound to find themselves here. And I can’t blame them. The street is wide enough to accommodate people and there are a lot of shops lining both sides of the street. There are also benches along the street for the visitors who are tired of exploring this place. Dali may not be as large as Lijiang but it will still take some time to explore this place.

I was basically just following the main road of Dali and looking at the shops here. The mostly sell Bai themed stuff. It really shows how much the Chinese treasure their culture as most tourist destinations have some kind of cultural theme to them. According to the Chinese, there is a local flavor or culture which cannot be found elsewhere and they like visiting places that. It is thus not surprising to see cultural performances in different tourist sites in China.

One of the main structures I saw in Dali Ancient Town is the Wuhua Pavilion 五华楼 which looks suspiciously like the Market Tower at Pingyao, another ancient city I visited in Shaanxi province. I suspect that the Wuhua Pavilion serves the same purpose as the Market Tower at Pingyao – that is as a watch tower. It is tall enough to see far and hopefully spot and invaders from coming. Visitors can climb up the tower for a fee. While the foot of the pavilion has been converted into some shops. Ah such is the march of progress.
