My time at Lijiang Ancient Town is finally over and I will be leaving for the next destination the next day. I like how I scheduled the trip this time since I get to stay longer in one place and don’t need to rush from place to place. The ancient town of Lijiang itself is already worth several days stay. There was so much to see in the ancient town and also around the city such as the Tiger Leaping Gorge, Baisha or even Shangrila. I already didn’t visit a few important places since it wasn’t the optimal time to visit it, I’m looking at you Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. I had to forgo this famous mountain since it is expensive to visit. When I get another chance I will go there during autumn.
Finally it was dinner time, I didn’t really wander much that afternoon but I entered a restaurant early just to have a seat. Zui Hao Ju Restaurant 醉好聚 was the name of the place. I fully intended to have dinner there but it was still a bit early. There weren’t any customers yet either but they didn’t seem to mind me hanging out there. I guess I was good for business, since I looked like a paying customer. I did have to order dinner eventually and decided to spend a little bit more for dinner this time. One of the items which I wanted to try to Naxi Grilled Fish 纳西烤鱼.
As the name implies this is Naxi style grilled fish. I wasn’t really sure where the Naxi part came from. I suspect they attach the name to any dish in their menu to give it an air of authenticity. Well, it worked for me. As for the fish. The fish wasn’t very large though it was served on a large tray with the fish lying in a pool of oil. There were a lot of spices on top of the fish but most prominently black beans which give it that distinctive taste. The fish was actually quite nice but there were a lot of bones since they probably used freshwater fish as is commonly used here. I took my time to finish the fish, I wasn’t really in a hurry to go anywhere.
