Visiting the Wangu Pavilion on the top of Lion Hill in Lijiang Ancient Town is a welcome change from just walking through shops which look more or less the same. Yes, the houses are very attractive but if you see an entire town which looks like that, you quickly lose interest in seeing the rest. I like visiting ancient towns like this but this might be a little too much. I was specifically looking for a different look at Lijiang and I thought that a view from above would be nice.
I managed to get a view of an ancient town when I was in Xidi in Anhui province and I thought that was nice. I was expecting something similar here in Lijiang Ancient Town, since this place has a few mountains a hills nearby. Lion Hill is the perfect spot to do this viewing and it also helps by having the Wangu Pavilion which rises above the rest of the town. The Wangu Pavilion is arguably the best spot to view Lijiang Ancient Town as a whole. It might be a little walk but I think it is well worth it. Besides, you can easily get back to town like this.
