I walk up Lion Hill is quite pleasant as it is merely like a walk through the woods. And it really is. Much of the forest on Lion Hill is still here with the path going up winding around the mountain. I think this is a good idea as it gives visitors more to see as they go around the mountain. For people in a hurry, there is always the stairs to use here. I wasn’t in a hurry at all so I was just walking around and taking photos every few steps.
The ultimate destination of this path is undoubtedly the Wangu Pavilion which is unmistakable in Lijiang Ancient Town. This is one of the more important structures here in the town and it no doubt also doubles as a viewing platform. I don’t know if this was intentional but it seems that Wangu Pavilion is built for tourism as well. From the outside it is five stories high, but I don’t think I would have any problem climbing that tower. I was just excited how the view looks from the top.
