Passing By the Yangtze River

A Look at the Mighty Yangtze River

A Look at the Mighty Yangtze River

I was on my way to a remote part of Yunnan and I found the scenery to be astounding. The mountains here though weren’t as high yet but they blend well with the surrounding country side. We then came to what is a very large river and it turns out to be the Yangtze River. It might surprise you to know that three of Asia’s major rivers pass through Yunnan province – the Yangtze, the Salween in Myanmar and the Mekong River. All three rivers form the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan, and it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rivers do seem to be somewhat parallel up to a certain point until they all go their own way to Shanghai, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Peaceful Side of the Yangtze River

The Yangtze as you know is the second longest river in the world, it is quite mind boggling to realize that the river starts here so far inland. Not surprising that it is known as the Changjiang 长江 or Long River in China. In Yunnan, it is inevitable that I would run into this river since it winds its way through large parts of Yunnan. At this point the river doesn’t look very impressive. The flow isn’t really that strong and it is actually quite peaceful here. In fact, I won’t be surprised to see the locals set up some kind of river cruise here.
