It was quite surprising to know how fast I was out of the Baisha Murals. There was hardly anything to see there since the Dabaoji Palace, where the murals are, was so dark, unfortunately, photography is not allowed for fear of damaging the murals and I can’t blame them for doing so. Either that, or they are hiding something from me. For CNY 30, it was quite a letdown for me. I wasn’t the only one visiting the Baisha Murals, most of them were Chinese tourists and they were likewise disappointed and looking at each other as if asking, “is that it?”. Unfortunately, the answer was yes. There wasn’t much to see here aside from the murals. There is no denying the importance of the murals since it is a showcase of how sophisticated the Naxi kingdom was back when Baisha was still the capital of their kingdom.
We can go one about the Buddhist, Taoist, Tibetan and Dongba religion that were part of that mural but I probably had enough of it. Baisha is a very sleep town and I doubt there was antying going on here. Baisha was spruced up to look a little prettier to hopefully get more tourist. There was some restaurants here but they were nowhere was rowdy as the ones in Lijiang Ancient Town. I was thinking of getting back to Lijiang as soon as possible but maybe I would like to have a look around first.
