While Lijiang Ancient Town is certainly living up to its reputation as the most beautiful ancient town in China, it does get a little tiring to see the houses all looking exactly the same. In fact, if you don’t pay much attention, you might mistake one house for another, or even Lijiang for another ancient town. I don’t really get why they all tend to look alike, perhaps it is competition as well? If the other houses looks old and gets more customers then maybe it works? I really did see some “old” houses being built at Lijiang Ancient Town, though they were doing it in a more traditional way.
One of the places which seemingly is more historical in nature is the Guanmenkou. It looks like a piece of the Great Wall of China planted here in Lijiang. The Guanmenkou looks like a gate which led to an important place. This place doesn’t seem to exist anymore but the gate still does. Now, millions of people pass through the gate and one of the few landmarks that I was able to use here, and it seems that it works for the locals as well since I see a lot of people waiting for other people as well.
