Most part of the market at Lijiang Ancient Town was a wet market. I thought this was a welcome change from the endless row of souvenir shops here at the town. Most of the stores here practically sell the same types of goods. They were quite interesting but it gets old quite fast once you see twenty other stores selling exactly the same kind of thing. It really makes me wonder how much money do the shops here make? Isn’t the rental for the storefronts expensive in this place?
I have seen a lot of these ancient towns in China and they practically follow the same formula. I think it works but it seems everyone tended to look alike. That is why wandering into a market seems to be a welcome break from the endless stream of shops selling scarves. At one point in the market, there was one chopping up what seems to be pork complete with the rest of the animal. You don’t get to see this normally in tourist spots, right?
