My style to exploring the ancient town of Lijiang is basically, no style. I originally tried to follow the map but eventually, I got lost and forgot about using it. I spent the rest of the day trying to get used to the layout of the town, and this is easier said than done. I wsa trying to remember the layout thrrough the use of landmarks and names of major streets. It somehow works only to fail on me yet again. Well, in this place you don’t really know what you will be able to find. In my case, I managed to stumble into what I think is the most authentic place here in the entire town.
It was a market. I consider this the most authentic area in the entire town since there is not sprucing up of “old” Ming or Qing dynasty houses. This is real commerce targetted at the locals. The market here sell primarily vegetables and fruit. Most of the fruit I saw here were pretty standard ones and I mean the ones you can see in supermarkets outside the country. It is fun to wander through markets as you can really feel the place being alive.
