Old Streets in Lijiang Ancient Town 丽江古城
Lijiang Ancient Town in Yunnan province it definitely the number one ancient town in the country. Much of the town has been restored and eventually used for commercial purposes but it is still a very pretty town. The town is so large that it is very easy to get lost here and every turn would bring you to a place which was similar to ther previous place. It is a place where just following a road can make you end up in a place you have been to before. Troublesome as it may be to find you way here, it is also part of the fun when visiting Lijiang Ancient Town. I am not exaggerating when I say I had to find my hostel several times when coming back from somewhere. It was really that confusing.

Yes, because of this, maps for the old town are sold everywhere but I would have to say that these aren’t really very helpful. They are but rough drawings of where places should be and it is still very easy to get lost here even with a map. Most of the maps I have seen didn’t really have much detail to help you find your way. One might probably need a GPS so navigate their way here but I’m not even sure if this place has already been mapped to that detail. I would say, unless you are in a huge hurry to go somewhere, go and get lost inside the old town. You might be surprised with what you will find. And whatever you find, don’t count on finding it again.
