Nightfall at Dukezong Ancient Town 独克宗古城

Colorful Guishan Park at Night

It was my last night at Shangrila, while it wasn’t the idyllic enlightening experience that I imagined it to be, it still turned out to be a very interesting trip. Most of the things that I have found out here were lessons for my next visit here. There are a lot more places to see here in this area and I haven’t even gotten the chance to do so. However, the next time I come here, I would be coming with friends at least someone to watch my back. When the guidebook said that Yunnan province alone is worth a whole month’s trip, now I believe them. I am only in the northern tip of the province and there is already so much that I missed.

I have spent a few nights here in Dukezong and it was a bit strange not to have capture some of the night scenes here. Perhaps I was saving everything for the last day, but here they are. The town itself is brightly lit much like any other ancient town in China. The square was filled with people for a cultural performance but it didn’t really last that long. Another brightly lit site was Guishan Park. The temple and the trees of the park were gaudily lit in a myriad of colors, in typical Chinese fashion. I managed to capture it just before the sky turned black and I think I liked the riot of colors it captured.
