I was finally done with the Guishan Park and it was on to exploring the rest of the town. There was a plaza in front which is bordered by three different buildings. One of them was Guishan Park, which I have already explored, while the others didn’t seem to be as interesting, I took the left one (coming from Guishan Park), I wasn’t really sure what kind of structure it was but the name clued me in that it was a musuem of some sort.
If you recall the Chinese civil war, there was a mention of the Long March. This was done by the followers of Mao Zedong when he was gathering his forces. This also serves as some sort of reminder of the tenacity of the ones who participated in this march. Apparently, the Red Army marched through Shangrila, and the local gladly assisted them in their mission. It should also be noted that the same people they helped contributed to the looting destruction which happened during the cultural revolution. But enough of history, this was a museum which was dedicated to that.
I am no Chinese history expert so I wasn’t very familiar with the people involved. There were photographs of people who I assume to be related to the march. Other than that, there wasn’t much interest in the museum. Even the locals don’t seem to be terribly interested in this place. Unless you are serious Chinese history buff, you can probably give this place a miss.
