You can do a little exploration on the top of the terraces at Baishuitai. You can try to see where the water comes from or you can try to explore the dried up parts of Baishuitai. It would have been very interesting to see how this place looked like in its prime. I wasn’t sure if it was because of climate change but there seemed to be much, much more water before than now. I visited when it was the rainy season so there should be a little bit more water.
Perhaps the source of water of Baishuitai has already changed course and it is only leaving a little bit of water to feed the terraces. I don’t know whether it is right to “fix” the water flow in the name of tourism but it would be nice if there was more water there. Of course with more water there people won’t be able to just cross the terrace as they please. This would demand an elevated walkway to keep people off the formation. In a way, that might be much better for the long term survival of Baishuitai.
