Local Tourist Praying at Baishuitai 白水台
I was exploring the foot of the Baishuitai limestone terraces when I noticed that I wasn’t the only person there. I noticed that there was this odd fellow which was talking to the local tourists and mentioning about how holy this place is. As it turned out, Baishuitai is considered the birth place of the Dongba religion, as such, it is considered a holy place by the adherents of the religion. Come to think of it, I vaguely recall how Huanglong is also considered a holy place by the Tibetans, perhaps this was because of the beauty of this place which made them consider this a holy place.

Anyway, the person who was talking to the local tourists was convincing everyone that this was indeed a holy place. There were Tibetan prayer flags here and so were incense sticks. The man was convnicing them to pray here, for a fee, of course. I thought it was a quite hypocritical of him to do that but a man’s gotta earn his keep. Strangely enough the holy area seems to be some part which was covered in algal growth. I didn’t bother asking them why that particular spot but it seems that he was quite convincing as people were gathering around him to get a chance to pray. A local I happened to talk to told me that he was Christian and didn’t believe in such things, well, to each his own.
