My Bed at the Shangrila Lamtin Youth Hostel 蓝田国际青年旅舍
The Shangrila Lamtin Youth Hostel at Dukezong Ancient Town is a cozy place to stay in. It is one of those old houses which was converted into a guest house. The place is very charming with a large common area for visitors. However, I preferred to stay in the lobby where the staff are. There is wifi in the ground floor so if you have a laptop you can connect back to civilization if you want to. However, who does that when you are already in Shangrila? The hostel was a lovable dog as a pet and it tends to hog the seats in the lobby area. The lobby is already decorated with what appears to be an altar. I wasn’t sure what it was either and I never asked. English is understood here but hardly spoken, your mileage may vary.

The second floor was where all the bedrooms were. My dorm room was at just outside the bathroom which makes it very convenient. I managed to land the bottom bunk of the double decker bed. Not bad since I didn’t make any reservations. The rooms were dark but each of the beds have reading lights. There would normally be something like a balcony here but it is all covered by transparent panes to shield the occupants from the harsh winter here. It was still summer but it was already quite chilly here. I like it that way, I don’t have to wear too much heavy clothing and I won’t sweat so much. The bathroom was okay, it had a western style toilet which was perfect for me. There didn’t seem to be that many foreigners so I practically have the bathroom all to myself. Unfortunately, the plumbing failed for that one and it was unusable for a day or two. So I was forced to use the traditional one. Be warned that hot water is only availabe on certain times of the day.
