I was thoroughly amazed by the incredible architecture at the Kunming Changshui International Airport. The airport only opened a few days ago but it seemed that most of the kinks have already been worked out. The airport is currently China’s fourth largest and the airport terminal is the second largest in the country. It is seldom that I’m impressed by an airport terminal that I have to take photos of it. Being part of China’s push to open up the western regions of the country, the Kunming Changshui International Airport serves as a reminded of the this push.
I was already impressed with the interiors of the airport but it seems that a bigger treat lay ahead. The airport was built far away from the city with a massive airport like that you need a lot of land which China happens to have a lot of. This also served as an opportunity to showcase some outstanding architecture. The terminal building seems was built for its looks as well. There is a viewing area outside the terminal building, including a rather large garden. The viewing area seems to be a mess that day as there seemed to have been some gathering a few days ago, it was the formal opening of the airport. The terminal building itself is difficult to appreciate it entirely since it was so large. The central area of the terminal rises like a mountain from the rest of the terminal with the sides of the terminal serving as the wings of some giant bird.
