At this point in our tour of the Stone Forest, we were basically just following the trail of tourists streaming out of the Minor Stone Forest. After a while this really get a big boring. The karst are truly astounding to look at but in the end they all look the same. We went through one of the smaller trails which weave through the central area of the Stone Forest only to come into a clearing where we realize is one of the more well known parts of the Stone Forest.
The karst at this part of the Stone Forest has a large 石林 carved into its face. This is typical of Chinese tourist attractions and there are numerous examples of this all over the country. Taishan in Shandong province and Huangshan in Anhui province both have this. I’m sure there are more examples of these. The name is carved into the rock tastefully but later more would come and carve something into thee rock face. Some famous personalities have carved some saying here, these are usually done by very, very important people such as the prime minister or the president. The Chinese know how to appreciate these more than I can so I took a few snaps and moved on.
