It hasn’t even been thirty minutes since was arrived at Perhentian Kecil and I have already taken numerous photos just from the jetty alone. I think it has been a while since I got so excited to take photos. Today seemed to be different since we were already taking tons of photos even while still carrying our backpacks. We haven’t even gotten off the jetty. The sun was still quite high in the sky and there was lots of time to explore the island. The sun won’t be setting until around seven in the evening so we can always take our own sweet time. It seems finding a place to stay for the night is the furthest thing in our minds. I was relieved that Perhentian Kecil wasn’t the tourist magnet that Phuket is. This island is definitely more laid back than Phuket.
Facilities-wise, Phuket will win hands down. The Perhentian Kecil relatively under-developed and one might wonder if there is 24 hour electricity and water here. I remember when visiting some relatively remote islands in the Philippines, power and water is always an issue. I always take it as part of the charm of staying in such a place. Perhentian Kecil, actually has twenty four hour electricity and water all piped from the mainland. There is mobile phone signal here as well, though I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to be contacted or not. I normally avoid calls whenever I am on holiday, besides, I will be paying for any roaming charges.
