I was pleasantly surprised to discover this wonderful pedestrian street here in Beijing. It is just a stone’s throw away from the Forbidden City and I had no idea it was here. Perhaps it was all because of the noise generated by Wangfujing and how supposedly great it is to be there being the premier shopping street of the capital city. While the sun was going done the lights at Qianamen street started lighting up. It does take a while since not all of them would be turning them on all at the same time.
Qianmen Pedestrian Street reminds me a lot of Harbin’s Zhongyang Street. It has a small town feel and the buildings were all nicely restored. To top it all, there weren’t as many people as I feared it would have. Probably because of the length of the street itself. I suspect that most people would be like me who would not be able to afford to shop here, but instead drop by here to see the beautiful buildings. There are eating places here I really need to start looking.
