The City God Temple in the ancient town of Pingyao is all what I expected it to be. The architecture of the place doesn’t really differ much from the other buildings in the town. I can’t even tell the difference between Ming and Qing dynasty architectures as I would just tend to lump them into the Chinese architecture category. I guess I was already quite tired of seeing these types of buildings as I have seen enough of them to last a lifetime. Some of the novelty has worn off and I don’t have the same zeal to explore these places.
However, it is still important to note that this is a UNESCO World Heritage site. So it is still worth to explore this place. The entire Pingyao ancient town is considered one of the best preserved ancient towns in China. The good thing here is that the town is only preserved and not restored. That reminded me of my visit to the Forbidden City in Beijing. Some parts of the palace were suspiciously brighly colored, while others were dark beyond recognition.
