After some serious Chinese language practice at the Harmony Guest house. I realized that it was already dark outside. The sun set a bit more “normally” here in this area. The strange thing with China is that no matter how big the country is. It is still within one time zone. There was a time where it was divided into several time zones but no longer. These days they follow the official time in Beijing. Anyway, being a UNESCO World Heritage site, Pingyao would still be interesting even at night. I was not to be disappointed.
I head back out to the South Gate of Pingyao where I was wandering around prior to dinner. The city walls were all lit up beautifully. The South Gate itself is decorated much like other Chinese gates I have seen in the country. It was awfully quiet here outside the gate as I realized that there wasn’t much beyond the city walls. Some establishments could be seen a fair distance from the city thus adding to the feeling of isolation.
