There were several “must see” places in Pingyao Ancient Town, I think it was around sixteen sites, but the weather was crummy and it was quite late in the afternoon. I think the time was back to my normal time again so no more sunset chasing for now. I would be spending some time here in Pingyao Ancient Town before heading back to Beijing to end my three week trip. The original plan called for a loop around imperial China from Beijing to Xi’an and back, going through the UNESCO World Heritage Sites along the way. My obsessive nature compells me to try to complete this to the best of my abilities. Hey, I even managed to get to Ji’an in Jilin province, I never thought I would actually get there.
With my plan to explore Pingyao set for tomorrow. I just randomly wandered through the city. Apparently, I was quite close to the southern end of the town so I figured to find out just what exactly is outside this town? From the tower I climbed there was large gates positioned in the four cardinal directions. I would be visiting the south gate in this case. It was already looming across the horizon and it would hard to miss from here. Along the way I also saw several other guest houses, one of which I would be staying at in the following day.
