The ticket I purchased allows me entrance into several points of interest within the walled city. Pingyao is an ancient town which used to be the financial center of China during the Qing dynasty. Much money flowed through this place and as a result the town became very prosperous. The town is now a UNESCO world heritage site and one could spend several days just exploring every nook and cranny of the delightful town. The buildings of Pingyao Ancient city all have the Ming and Qing dynasty styles, this uniformity of the design makes the ancient town such a picturesque place. This kind of reminds me of the ancient towns I visited in Anhui province Xidi and Hongcun.
There are several points where you can use your ticket. The important sights within the town have gates and ticket to scan tickets. Sometimes, there won’t be anyone manning the turnstile and I would just scan the ticket myself. It was a very modern way of doing things here in this ancient city. The closest point of interest where I was at was the Pingyao Ancient Government Office. With a lot of money flowing through the streets of Pingyao, it is not surprising that the government has also set up shop here. The layout of the office is typical of ancient Chinese buildings and not unfamiliar to me as I have seen numerous variations of this theme in other places.
