Zhong Street is one of Shenyang’s pedestrian shopping street. I say that because it seems to have more than one of them. I wasn’t able to visit any other pedestrian shopping street here in the city apart from Zhong Street so I don’t have any idea of the quality of the other streets. Zhong Street is some sort of an ongoing project since it didn’t seem to be finished at the time of my visit. There were numerous construction activities along the street and it makes for not a very pleasant place to walk at that time.
The main reason for the construction activities here appears to be due to the new metro system that was under construction at that time. It wasn’t exactly the best way to do the construction work here as there were large open pits which were clearly visible from the street. Although it would take a really determined person to fall into the pit, these things definitely could have been done much better. Zhong Street itself has the requisite western style buildings all brightly lit, some of them much better than others. There were also some more modern malls so it wasn’t really a pure strip of old buildings.
