With nothing much to do but wait until it gets dark, I was exploring around the vicinity of the Fujin Gate 抚近门, also known as the East Gate 大东门. I noticed that there was a market near the foot of the gate. The market was linear and that means that the stores were put side by side each other and it goes all the way to the end of the block, a very long block. I have never been to a Chinese market before and this was much chance to see how it was like for them.
The East Gate Farmers’ Market 大东门农贸市场 was more like a place to purchase ready made food. However, this is no takeaway center. The food here are of the type which the rest of the world would be unaccustomed to. In particular, there was a long queue of people waiting to purchase some food. It was duck, I was incredibly curious to know what kind of duck was so special that they would need to queue for it. Alas, the queue was too long for me to consider falling in line with them to try out how it was. The other shops weren’t as popular as this one, although they have their fair share of customers.
