The Imperial Palace in Shenyang is turning out to be a repeat of my visit to the Forbidden City in Beijing. The two are so similar that I would have a hard time telling which place was which. The only difference for me was the scale of the palace in Shenyang seems to much smaller than the one in Beijing. Following the traditional layout for palace, it was again one hall after another. I was currently exploring the palace which was built by Huangtaiji. It seems that I reach what seems to be the tallest structure in the palace – the Phoenix Tower.
The Phoenix Tower is a tower built on an elevated platform and it has three levels. The upper parts of the tower are off limits to visitor but the ground floor is open though. The Phoenix Tower is another example of Qing imperial architecture, which the rest of the world has come to associate to be old Chinese architecture. This design would be seen in the rest of the palace, so much that it begins to look the same. For this to happen so soon in my exploration of the palace is bad since I probably won’t have much interest looking at the rest of the buildings here.
