There were a few eateries around the Imperial Palace in Shenyang and I was in need to a lunch break. I walked a few large city blocks to get to the palace and I really needed some food. At the same time, I needed to hurry since it was already mid-afternoon and I still needed to go through the palace. Given my experience in the Imperial Palace in Beijing, this was also going to be a long walk. My quick lunch of stir-fried mushroom and rice was nice but I didn’t get to appreciate it that much since I was in a hurry. I have to remind myself to hurry since the sun sets very early this time of the year.
The Imperial Palace in Shenyang is nowhere as massive as the one in Beijing. The imperial palace here was built as an auxillary palace for the Qing emperors. However, the scale of the imperial palace can still be felt even from the outside. As it is as large as several city blocks. Keep in mind that Chinese city blocks can be really big. There was an ticket booth at the entrance and you can avail yourself of a guide if you so wish. I didn’t really need these things since I wasn’t familiar with the personalities of the Qing dynasty. Time is running short and I need to rush through the palace while there was still light outside.
