I wasn’t really planning on staying in Shenyang for too long. Not when the weather here was unexpectedly cold. I was walking through the streets of Shenyang looking for a place to stay the night. There was no Hostelling International here so I have to make do with a budget hotel. I found the street I needed to go to and there were indeed a lot of hotels here. It seems like it is a very busy street so there must be something about this street. After a few inquiries I was able to land a hotel for a decent price. More on that later.
After checking in the hotel, I braved the cold and had a look around the area. Shenyang is a very busy city but like most Chinese cities it has a well built transportation infrastructure. I wanted to go to the city’s top sight and hopped on a bus which was going that way. It didn’t take long for us to get there. I was surprised because it was practically the next block. I could have walked all the way to the site. So, what was so important about this site. Shenyang is known to be the site of an imperial palace built by the Qing dynasty and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site. Though I am probably sick of these kinds of places, I still neded to visit them.
