Ji’an City was certainly one of the more pleasant cities I have visited. It is certainly a far cry from the megacities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. There wasn’t much to do apart from exploring the Koguryo ruins or maybe the occasional exploration of the Yalu River. The city itself wasn’t terribly exciting. I don’t remember seeing a shopping mall here probably the most they have here is a strip of shops selling winter clothes. The night before I left I went on a fruit diet and bought some fruit to bring back to the hotel. I have been eating too much oily and salty food, this was my attempt to make up for it.
I had to get up early the next day to catch the bus that leaves Ji’an. I could have taken the train out but it was far slower. The high speed train doesn’t go all the way here as Ji’an was too small for that. At least transportation in and out of the city was convenient considering the remoteness of the place. It took me five hours to get to my next destination city – Shenyang, which was another of those historical Chinese cities. I have thrown out all my Chinese history out the window and I couldn’t remember much what Shenyang was so important for. I guess it was time to consult my guide book to find out.
