The square at the center of the city was much larger than I anticipated. In fact it doesn’t feel much like a square at all since the other side of the square doesn’t seem to be that populated. At the middle of it all was the Lotus Garden as the name implies there are lotus flowers here in the park. But before that, I needed to see if there was anything else in the park. Being the city center there were a lot of government buildings surrounding the square. Most notably was the imposing building of city hall.
I don’t know why these government buildings need to looks so imposing. I thought it should look more welcoming since they are for the people, instead the feel more like an authority overseeing everyone. The center of the park was spruced up by a metal sculpture of a bird. I don’t know much about the significance of the metal bird but I have a feeling that it was somehow related to the history that is tied to the city. Ji’an City itself was a former capital of the Koguryo kingdom before they eventually settled in Pyongyang.
