The Taiwang Tomb is one of the larger tombs that I have seen in my exploration of the ruins of the Korguryo Kingdom. No doubt that this was one of the more better preserved ones in the entire region. The Taiwang Tomb looms like a small hill that rises from the flat lands of this area. Upon closer inspection, more characteristics of a Koguryo Tomb emerge, in particular their use of rocks to build the tomb, making it no different from the other tombs I have explored.
The tomb is where the Good King of Koguryo, Tan De 谈德, is buried. Oweing to his stature as the king, the burial mound for him was equally splendid. There was a path which circles the tomb and it is for visitors to observe the tomb from all angles. There was a path which leads you to the tomb itself, there is a flight of stairs for visitors to use. We can’t have visitors trampling all over the UNESCO world heritage sites, can we? I found myself having to climb the tomb to get a closer look. Is this what Lara Croft does?
