First order of business when I got to Ji’an city in Jilin province was losing the touts who are following me. They weren’t as irritating as in other Chinese cities though. I needed to find the hotel which was recommended by Lonely Planet, come to think of it, the driver there would have made a good source of information. Anyway, I found the hotel which was around three small blocks away from the bus station. The problem is the name of the hotel didn’t seem to match the one in the guide book. In the guide book it was 鹿鸣宾馆 but the one I found was 路明宾馆, both are pronounced exactly the same way, so I was wondering whethere this was a fake hotel or not. In my mind, I kept thinking that, it can’t be fake, it was in the same location, maybe the guide book was wrong in printing the name of the hotel in Chinese.
As it turns out, they made a name change recently, it was written differently, but it was still pronounced the same way. This was what the receptionist told me as I was checking in the hotel. It was low season and there weren’t a lot of tourists, so they gave me the room for CNY 100 each day, not cheap but not expensive either. Their rooms were nice and clean, while the toilet was a bit basic, but at least it had western toilets. There was heating and television as well. One would have to note that there was a major intersection near the hotel and I could clearly here the advertisements blaring out from the speakers, it didn’t cause me to lose sleep though.
