I only spent a day at Changchun in Jilin province since my true objective in this city is the rather remote city of Ji’an which is right at the border with North Korea. The bus ride from Changchun to Ji’an wasn’t really very interesting, the bus took the highway to get here and it was quite comfortable. I actually had the option of taking the train but somehow it takes far longer than the bus. Fortunately for me, there was a direct bus from Changchun to Ji’an, much to my delight and relief. The ride took around five hours with the last few hours going through some remote but beautiful forested areas.
Ji’an is the last stop for the bus ride and we were dropped at the city’s bus station which was along its busiest street. As we were arriving at Ji’an city, I was constantly on the lookout for the street where the hotel I planned to stay in was. It was apparently on the same street as the bus station. The moment you get out of the bus station, you will be greeted by a throng of drivers who wish to bring you to your hotel or some kind of tour perhaps. I already had an idea where I would be staying so I just brushed them aside and continued on. There would be some who will drive slowly along the street following me, hoping that I would employ their services. Why should I, when my hotel is already right in front of me.
