It was still early in the night and I didn’t really want to head back to the hostel yet. It was my last night in Haerbin and I wanted to make the most of it and maybe see something which I haven’t seen yet. I decided to take a walk down Zhongyang Street which by now is already buzzing with numerous pedestrians. It is always a joy to walk in this street, no wonder every major Chinese city has been replicating their own pedestrian shopping streets whenever they can.
I remember I didn’t walk all the way to the Flood Control Monument 防洪胜利纪念塔 at night the last time, so I decided to see if there was anything interesting there. Well, there wasn’t, although the monument itself was light by multicolored lights in typical gaudy Chinese style. There were likewise numerous people just walking their dinner away along the Songhua River. It was nice to be walking here at night. It was brightly lit and the cold breeze was refreshing.
