It was a long but very enjoyable night, we are very grateful to our hosts for organizing this but we needed to be on our way. The next day was another busy day. We were still in Suzhou and we will be exploring what the city has to offer. Outside the hostel was actually a good start. The hostel we stayed at was actually at a very good location since it was at the old town of Suzhou. The place is permeated with canals much like Zhou Zhuang was. In fact some parts of Suzhou really look like Zhou Zhuang. You could say that this is a more modern version of Zhou Zhuang.
The main street of the old town is Pingjiang Road 平江路, it was supposed to be around 800 years old but I didn’t really see too many interesting things here. Probably most interesting to me was the canal alongside which we were walking. It wasn’t that early in the morning anymore and a lot of people are already up and about. The canal already had some tourist boats on it. Actually I don’t think it would be a nice place to tour by boat, I’d much rather do it in Zhou Zhuang. As far as ancient streets are concerned this one didn’t seem to be particularly interesting. Perhaps we weren’t looking hard enough?
