It thought we should have been in this place much earlier but my friends decided to take a cab to the Leifeng Pagoda, instead of just walking along the lake. The West Lake is the main tourist attraction of Hangzhou and is one of the top tourist attractions of the entire country. The West Lake has inspired numerous poems, restaurants and numerous namesakes throughout the country. The West Lake didn’t use to be a lake, before it was part of the Qiantang River part of it silted up until it formed a lake. The lake was known throughout Chinese history and countless emperors have made replicas of the lake in their own palaces in the north.
The West Lake now is very tourist friendly as there is a cemented path which circumnavigates the lake itself. There are also English signs everywhere to keep Chinese languange challenged from getting lost. Walking that path would take a whole day to complete with though so be prepared. Naturally, as a main tourist attraction there were also hundreds of people waling along the shores of the famed lake. Much to the delight of the people making a living out of the lake. Numerous boat touts would harass the visitors but just pretend they don’t exist if you are not interested.
