This was my second time in Hangzhou, but I was only here for a day the last time. Again, I will only be here for a day and I will try to make the most of it. One of the places I didn’t get to visit the last time was Wushan Hill 吴山 “hill” is actually redundant since “shan” means mountain or hill whenever applicable. There was a temple on top of the hill and we wanted to see it as it may provide great views of the surrounding area. While this was no Huangshan, this was still a decent hill and will take us a few minutes to climb it all the way to the top.
One surprise was that on our way to the top, there was a square or performance area where residents where, of all things, dancing. I have seen this kind of behavior before and I always found it immensely fascinating. As modern as China is right now, it is always a pleasure to see these kinds of activities once in a while. What is more is these aren’t the scripted ones for tourism’s sake. My friends also watched in fascination while I resisted the urge to grab them and join in the fun.
