We were finally inside the Lingyin Temple, which was our original destination. The entrance to the temple was nice and quiet, so imagine my surprise to see a lot of people on the other side of the entrance gate. There are a lot of temples in China but not all of them are still in active use. The Lingyin Temple is one of the more active ones in Hangzhou, enough for it to ask for an entrance fee. Hey, you still need money to operate a temple, you know.
The Lingyin Temple has been around for ages. It is almost two thousand years old. Of course, much of the place was already been renovated several times over the centuries but it was still surprising to know that it has been around that long. The Lingyin Temple is a Buddhist temple and it is one of the more famous in these parts of China. And it shows. A lot of the locals were offering incense to Buddha and praying. It is still a wonder to see this in atheist China.
