I’m towards the end of the journey in China, Hangzhou is my last stop and was taking it slow since I was supposed to be on vacation, I’ve been trying to relax since Shanghai, and it seems that Hangzhou is one of those cities which one can do exactly that. The streets of Hangzhou are lines with trees and it tries to present itself as a eco-friendly city. I remember seeing bicycles for hire here in Hangzhou. You have a pre-paid card and you just swipe the card at one of many bicycle lending stations to get you ride. When you get to your destination, you also leave it at the bicycle park there. No need to worry about losing your bike!
It think that is a very nice way of supporting bicycle riding. Even more so in a country which just a couple of decades ago vast majority of the population were still riding bicycles. This system will help reduce carbon emissions and at the same time enhance the image of Hangzhou as an eco-friendly tourist destination. And it shows, I noticed that the air in Hangzhou is much cleaner that elsewhere. I could be because of the lake too, but at least the city is doing its part.
