I needed to make one final visit to Nanjing Road before I call it a night. I haven’t really taken photos of this street in the three days that I was here. But it seems like I came at the right time. The lights of the shopping centers along Nanjing Road were all lit. The colonial style buildings in the area were a lot lit just like their more famous siblings at the Bund. There were quite a few people here at night, mostly just walking abouth and admiring the lights.
As I was walking around Nanjing Road and pair of young ladies approached me and started begging. They did not look anything like beggars at all, in fact you can say that they were better dressed than I was. They say they hadn’t eaten the whole day and just wanted CNY 1 to buy bread. The nice clothes gave them away and I ignored them. Having seen these type of people here in China, I know that the best reaction will be not to have a reaction. Just walk past them. All of a sudden, the enjoyable night at Nanjing Road vanished into thin air and I thought I just wanted to go back to the hostel.
