When wandering around in Shanghai, it seems like places just lead to each other. Soon after I left the tourist trap that is Yuyuan Gardens, then I reached another open space which goes by the name of Gucheng Park 古城公园 or Old City Park. The name obviously refers to the old quarter of Shanghai which it is just adjacent to. Unlike the People’s Park, the Gucheng Park is much smaller but somehow much more relaxing. It seems the locals, and I mean the real Shanghai locals would come here to relax.
Much like how People’s Park in Chengdu is, the Gucheng Park has some sort of local feel to it. There are no tourists here, only the ones passing through. Most of the people here are older folk just hanging out with each other. Some were playing music and others were singing, no mobile karaoke, thanks goodness. Gucheng Park contrary to what its name implies, the Gucheng Park doesn’t feel old at all, it seems like just some leftover open space beside the old quarter which was converted to a park.
