The water village of Zhou Zhuang is situated in a very unique location. It is bounded by several lakes and rivers practically turning the entire place into an island of sorts. No wonder it is called a water village. I managed to reach the southern end of the village and I was soon standing on the shores of the one of the lakes that border the village. The lake wasn’t very pretty, actually, when I visited, the sky wasn’t very clear either and it was still misty and it is also over the lake.
The atmosphere over the lake was quite gloomy and could really make for some moody photos, but alas, there was hardly anything on the lake save for a fisherman faraway. A few plants float down towards the shore while far, far away, the horizon seems to blend into the sky. On the other side where I was standing, there was a long arched bridge which is a virtual shortcut to the other parts of the village. I don’t think this bridge was original and it must have been constructed very recently.
