Climbing Huangshan 黄山

Although I love mountains, I always dreaded climbing them. Mountains in China are made for climbing with the more famous ones lined with endless flights of stairs for the adventurous. I lost my chance to join the pretty German lady going the easy way up since she went for the cable car and I was stuck with with the cheap way up the mountain – by foot. As what I already expected, it was a long flight of stairs that doesn’t seem to end. Huangshan is a little higher that Mount Tai in Shandong province and I didn’t walk my way up.

However, this climb would be a little different since I have companions with me who I can talk to. It really helps to have a climbing buddy since you probably won’t notice the time pass by as you struggle your way up the mountain. The stairs up Huangshan are adequate and seem to be fairly safe. Although there is a quite a bit of traffic going up the mountain, most of the traffic goes through the cableway. The stairs on the other hand also sees its fair share of foot traffic. Fortunately, there are a few pavillions along the way for the weary, we would stop every ten minutes for me to catch my breath, to the chagrin of my companions.
